Rick and Tracy’s Colorado Mountain Elopement

eloping in the mountains of colorado

Absolutely everything about working with Rick and Tracy was fun. It's pretty clear that these two find joy in everyday adventures and their elopement wedding in the mountains of Colorado was no exception.

From the moment I finally got to meet them in person as they stepped out of their car at Sapphire Point Overlook, I knew shooting this couple's wedding was going to be pure joy from start to finish.

I was right! The evening was filled with laughter, fun and witty banter--oh yes, and the occasional chipmunk guest--all bathed in a backdrop of glorious Colorado Rocky Mountain pre-sunset light.

Just about as perfect as a photographer could ask for! Oh yes! One more thing. After some initial direction, these two turned out to be naturals in front of the camera. Elopement photographer Nirvana!

Tracy's bouquet was a stunning mixture of succulents and peach-colored peonies designed by my favorite Breckenridge wedding florist - Petal and Bean.

We weren't the only ones that loved the bouquet. The resident chipmunks went nuts for it!

When I told the animal-loving Tracy about the abundant chipmunk wildlife at Sapphire Point, she immediately giggled and set herself on a quest to make sure she got as much chipmunk time in as possible. She wasn't disappointed.

There is nothing more romantic, in my humble opinion, then a couple in love sharing an intimate dance on the side of a mountain...

Tracy and Rick (literally!) walked off into the sunset after their Colorado mountain elopement to go back to their condo for homemade pizza! Two people in love--not wanting to share their joy with anyone else--at least for the moment.

Places to Elope in Colorado – Kountze Lake, Denver

Kountze Lake and the adjacent historic working farm of Belmar Estates provides a unique experience for a small wedding ceremony at any time of year.  The old boat ramp is now used as a small wedding deck overlooking a duck pond.  Or if your tastes tend towards the rustic, a short walk along any of the circular paths leads to nice meadows and water overlooks.  The park is especially beautiful in snow or early spring.

Places to Elope in Colorado – Lookout Mountain Golden

Lookout Mountain in fresh spring powder. Bring your snowshoes!

Lookout Mountain is a wonderful year round location for an intimate ceremony.  In summer the forest floor is covered in crunchy pine needles and cones but when winter comes, the snow takes over and a hush descends on the land.  Densely wooded with pine and fir, it's magical when dressed in three-feet of fresh powder.  Indian Peaks and Front Range views provide an exciting backdrop for your winter vows!

A beautiful small meadow surrounded by red sandstone boulders and big trees forms a natural amphitheater.

Crisp high-altitude light envelopes everything with a soft bright glow.

Corey and Taylor’s Intimate Wedding at Panorama Point

Corey and Taylor's intimate wedding at Panorama Point was everything a small wedding is supposed to be--fun, relaxed and incredibly memorable.

I took Corey with me in my car to Panorama Point, while Taylor followed with her parents. Upon arrival, the first order of the day was the First Look.

Corey and Taylor wanted it light and fun for their wedding day and I was happy to oblige. We incorporated fun props like their purple socks (it was cold on their wedding day!) and sunglasses (also sunny!).

Panorama Point in Golden Gate Canyon State Park is one of my favorite in-town venues. Located about halfway between Boulder and Denver, it has mountain vistas, lots of trees and all kinds of nooks and crannies for fabulous backdrops. Corey and Taylor's wedding on October 3rd meant that the aspens still had a touch of color.

A Rocky Mountain National Park Wedding for Charlsie & Kira

walking through the trees
brides in raincoats

Charlsie and Kira came all the way from Georgia for an intimate wedding in Rocky Mountain National Park. We chose Copeland Falls as they were looking for a waterfall backdrop.

We had some weather challenges, but these two came prepared! They totally went with the flow and as the rain came and went they gamely stripped off, then added on layers of clothing to cope with the elements.

wedding boots!

It's a bit of a walk to Copeland Falls (about 10 minutes through the forest). So hiking boots and parkas were the order of the day as the rain began to fall on Rocky Mountain National Park.

A serendipitous turn caused the sun to peek out through the clouds, so it was off with the boots and raincoats and on with the ceremony!

Cory and Melora’s Keystone Mountain Elopement

keystone-gondola-ride

Keystone Mountain is one of my favorite Colorado summer elopement wedding venues. Not only is the scenery gorgeous with the Rocky Mountains in the background above Lake Dillon, but the ride up on the lift builds the excitement--as well as making for some incredible photos.

Cory and Melora (Mel) met us at the base of the lift mid-morning on a weekday in August. This is the best time to ensure that we have a bit of privacy once we get to the top of the mountain.

A couple of lift ticket purchases later and Cory, Mel, their officiant and I were on our way.

The Colorado sun was shining fiercely, so I walked Cory and Mel over to a shady area for some softer light. I always suggest to my couples that they bring props to help tell their story in pictures. I expected the sign and the sunglasses, but Cory's addition of a full-sized mountain bike was a new one!

Megan and Andrew’s Garden of the Gods Elopement

The skies miraculously cleared just minutes before Megan and Andrew's intimate exchange of vows at Garden of the Gods, leaving behind soft pearl lighting that was perfect to capture their special day.

Traveling to Colorado from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Andrew and Megan were treated to a spectacular Colorado sunset just after saying "I do."

The red of the sandstone rocks at Garden of the Gods was a perfect compliment for Megan's blush-colored gown. Even the gentle breeze cooperated--gently tossing her stunning long hair and giving her dress that "swaying in the breeze look."

Megan was a natural in front of the camera and had a playful quality that was repeatedly captured!

Taylor and Jacob’s Intimate Cheesman Park Elopement

Taylor and Jacob "stopped by" Denver on route from Texas to their honeymoon destination of sunny Spain. We held their ceremony at romantic Cheesman Park in the heart of Denver--just them, me and their fabulous wedding officiant--Bill Donovan of Lyssabeth's Wedding Officiants.

Most of the snow from our recent storm had melted on the day of their elopement, but the stunning architecture of the Cheesman Park Pavilion provided a sufficient backdrop for their winter wedding.

The elegance of their formal attire called for more than the usual color photos, so I had a lot of fun shading their pics in various tones of black and white and sepia.

Taylor braved the cold in order to allow me to get photos showcasing her fabulous dress. However, she did have a secret weapon in the warmth department...

Smart woman--warm boots under her elegant gown!
